Ember...
An ember, virtually undetectable – smoldering…waiting…it's potential is unimaginable.
Her design went through many stages as I wrote the script. Most of her designs were as you would imagine, very typical…this, although not right, was my favorite.

Ember...
Liette (Ember) is on a quest of self discovery - she isn't what she appears to be...hell, she isn't even human.
With some help from "Fate" she will realize her destiny.
Fate: "Have you ever heard it said that your destiny chooses you?"
I did this stuff awhile back when I was in my "if it's not Disney it's SH*T" phase - I even asked my friend Joey So, a seven yr Disney veteran to do the below clean up for me. - I was such a tool.

The Art of Ember
Ember aka 600 Moons was a animated feature I wrote in 1999. The script along with the Art of Ember book I was developing was shelved shortly after the release of Disney's Atlantis. The scripts didn't read the same but there were many similar elements and to be frank it just took the wind out of my sails.
The art of book was a test run and quite small but i am still proud of the work in it. Many of my friends contributed as well - I hope to post some of their works in future posts.

Drawing from Inspiration...
I had created a robot family and needed to round out my premise with some humans for them to interact with...I looked to Bruno Salamone for inspiration. His style is loose, fun and colorful and it was similar to the one I was working with already.
I'm a big fan of Salamone's work. I could only hope one would look at these designs and see the influence.

ruff, ruff...
Where are all my roughs!!! I've come to the realization that I don't draw much anymore... well, not for myself anyway.
Everything I draw lately has a purpose - roughs become clean, clean lineart gets colored and everything rough seems to get deleted along the way, leaving me with a finished piece and nothing else.
I'll have to dive into my archives... or start drawing on paper again.

The Perfect Name...
I usually turn to baby naming books for inspiration. The whole cast in this series was named that way except this guy. Carmine was a guy my mom used to date and Ravezollo was the last name of a girl my friend dated in high school. Please don't sue me.
Dr. Carmine Ravezollo:
Your typical run of the mill mob enforcer/physician. Dr. Ravezollo has the looks of someone more likely to put you in the hospital than treat you once you’re there.
Kind of a weird style...I find I don't draw much like this anymore. I think I was just coming off of "Bob & Magaret" when I did this line-up. A style sticks with me for awhile then fades away or morphs into something else.
I'm not sure if Carmine Ravezollo is the "the perfect name" for this guy but it stuck.

Line-ups...Yuk
Searching...
It seems I'm always searching for a style...'cause I don't really have one to call my own - not sure why.
This will eventually be Cherri with an "i" - at least I think that'll be her name...we'll see. I'm sure she'll go through numerous changes before I'm happy with her...but here are a few ideas of what she could look like.
